Dr. Jonathan Carlson to Perform the Omega Procedure for Migraine Centers in Phoenix
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) February 20, 2014 -- Migraine Treatment Centers of America has announced that Dr. Jonathan Carlson will now be performing the Omega migraine Procedure in the Phoenix, Arizona region.
The Omega Procedure is an innovative surgical procedure that provides long-lasting relief for people who suffer from chronic, debilitating migraine pain. The procedure is based on neurostimulation, which has been used for more than 40 years to treat chronic pain.
All qualified patients first undergo a trial procedure during which the neurostimulator is placed externally for four days, to confirm the procedure successfully eliminates the patient’s pain. The trial is typically held over a weekend and the patient is encouraged to do everything possible to try to trigger a migraine.
If the trial is successful, Dr. Carlson will place small wires under the skin so they are undetectable. Although they can’t be seen, these wires are connected to a small battery that is implanted under the skin in the lower back or upper buttock.
The rechargeable battery, which is designed to last up to 10 years, delivers gentle electrical impulses, or neurostimulation, to the nerves that cause headache pain, preventing the signals from reaching the brain. Neurostimulation has been shown to work in 4 out of 5 of qualified chronic migraine patients.
Dr. Carlson is an ACGME Accredited Pain Fellow and is double boarded in Anesthesiology and Pain Management.
After Dr. Carlson received his medical degree at the University of Oklahoma in 2004, he went on to complete a residency in anesthesiology at the University of California - Davis, and then completed a prestigious pain management fellowship at Texas Tech University.
