Dr. Kevin Sadati Discusses the Top Five Trending Plastic Surgery Procedures for Men
Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) January 09, 2016 -- According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), there is a 273 percent increase in the number of plastic surgery procedures performed on men since the organization began tracking statistics in 1997. The top five procedures among men include liposuction, gynecomastia correction surgery, hair transplant (hair restoration), Botox® and blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery and under eye bag removal).
“When fat deposits build up, they can cause unsightly problems like a swollen abdomen, love handles and even the appearance of breasts in men. Even men who are considered to be at a healthy weight can have unwanted fat buildup or stubborn fat,” Dr. Sadati stated. Liposuction, a common procedure, can remove excess fat to offer better contouring of the body. With over 400,000 procedures performed each year, Liposuction is considered the most common cosmetic procedure in the United States and is often paired with other procedures to obtain the ideal outcome.
Even in a very fit male when hormone levels are not properly balanced, men can develop enlarged breasts, a condition known as gynecomastia. Along with being unsightly, this issue can be emotionally difficult for men. According to Dr. Sadati, “gynecomastia correction surgery cuts out excess glandular tissue and utilizes ultrasonic liposuction to improve the contour of the chest and give it a more masculine appearance.” According to the ASPS, an estimated 26,175 men underwent gynecomastia correction surgery in 2014.
One of the most common issues men deal with as they age is hair loss. Since the 1950s, hair transplant procedures have helped restore the look of thinning or lost hair. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery revealed that in 2014, 112,409 people underwent surgical hair restoration procedures. According to Dr. Sadati,“most men in good health can undergo hair transplant surgery, provided they have sufficient hair in the donor area at the back of the head. This procedure takes between four and eight hours and is performed under local anesthesia.”
Botox® and other injectable dermal fillers are extremely popular in the United States. Dr. Sadati explains that “Botox® involves an injection into the muscles that contribute to deep wrinkles between the eyebrows and other areas of the face. In return, Botox® blocks the signals from the nerves to these muscles, ensuring that they cannot contract. This will cause the wrinkles to soften and relax and give the patient a more youthful appearance.” Botox® is considered a minimally invasive treatment that requires no downtime and offers effects that last between four to six months. According to the ASPS, over 410,000 men used Botox® in 2014.
When eyelids droop, it can make a person appear older than he or she actually is. Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that is used to treat this issue. According to the ASPS, between 2010 and 2015 the rate of men undergoing blepharoplasty has increased by 34 percent. “Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure where the fold of the eyelid is cut to remove excess skin, muscle and fat. The procedure only takes about two hours and is performed under local anesthesia. It is becoming more common among men because it offers excellent results and a short recovery time,” Dr. Sadati notes.
