Dr. Kohei Yamada to Address Mental Health at Royal Medical Society Student Conference - QUPI
Edinburgh, United Kingdom (PRWEB) February 14, 2018 -- Dr. Kohei Yamada will be speaking to students about mental health among medical practitioners at the Royal Medical Society National Student Conference in March 2018. As the representative of medical learning platform QUPI, Dr. Yamada will discuss how putting the joy back into medical studies can result in happier students and more effective doctors.
The Royal Medical Society was founded in 1737. The student council says it has the aim of “furthering the medical education of its members and building links amongst medical students.” This is the 8th year of their National Student Conference, which in the past has explored topics such as global health and women in medicine. This year, the theme is mental health.
Taking the opportunity to address medical students from across the United Kingdom, Dr. Yamada hopes to reignite students passion for learning, and share his own insights for overcoming the tough times and maintaining a healthy attitude throughout their studies and future careers.
Doctors and medical students have some of the highest rates of depression and suicide out of all professions. Up to ⅓ medical students experience depression at some point during their studies, while doctors are up to 2.27 times more likely to commit suicide than the general population. While a student at Charles University, First Faculty of Medicine in Prague, Dr. Yamada witnessed firsthand the psychological cost medical school can have on even the most resilient students. Drawing from the latest research as well as his own personal experiences, he plans to propose meaningful ways for students to help avoid depression by maintaining their love of learning and sense of joy throughout the ups and downs of their studies.
As the representative of QUPI, Dr. Yamada will also talk briefly about how the Poznan based medical education startup aims to make medical education fun again by providing an easy, engaging platform for revision and exam practice.
QUPI CEO, Damian Ratajczak, says “We love working with Dr. Yamada because although he’s a qualified doctor now he still remembers what it was like to be a medical student and go through those early struggles, so I think he’s really going to connect with the students at the conference.”
Speaking about his upcoming presentation, Dr. Yamada says “Medical school is an enormous challenge, but that doesn’t mean it has to be without joy. QUPI and I share the same mission of putting the love of learning back into medical education. I’m looking forward to sharing this vision at the conference in Edinburgh.”
