Dr. Madaiah Revana Now Offering Phlebectomy
Humble, TX (PRWEB) March 01, 2016 -- Dr. Madaiah Revana of Northeast Houston Vein Center recently traveled to Louisiana for training to perform a new leg procedure. Phlebectomy is a minimally-invasive procedure that uses a small scalpel or needle to remove varicose veins on the surface of the leg.
Dr. Revana is now performing this procedure in his office using a local anesthesia at Northeast Houston Vein Center, located in Humble, Texas. The equipment used is a small scalpel, called a phlebectomy hook, and it is used to make tiny incisions and remove the veins. The hook is similar to that of a tiny crochet hook with a blunt tip and a straight shaft.
After cleansing and sterilizing the leg, a series of incisions no larger than a pencil eraser are made in the skin next to the enlarged vein. The hook is inserted under the surface of the skin to remove the varicose vein through the incision.
Because the area being worked on is under a local anesthetic, patients rarely report any pain. Because the incisions are so small, no stitches are needed. When the procedure is completed, the leg will be wrapped in a comfortable but snug compression wrap.
