Dr. Robin and Joy Renee Montgomery Research Texas’ Place in US History
Richards, Texas (PRWEB) August 01, 2013 -- In their new book, “The Cradle of Texas Road: A Model of Cultural Integration for the Nation” (published by iUniverse), Robin and Joy Montgomery deliver a revealing look at the cultural history of Texas. Paying particular attention to the region north of Houston, the Montgomery’s present a cultural enclave of communities and sites distinctive to the state’s history.
“While studying the French explorer, Rene Robert Cavelier Sieur de La Salle, it struck me that his inadvertent presence north of the Rio Grande in Spanish territory provided the motivation for the Spanish to establish Spanish Texas,” recalls Robin, “hence the idea for ‘The Cradle of Texas Road.’”
The inception of the book is also owed to a bit of serendipity. La Salle was killed near present Navasota, Texas, where Robin was working at the time he began writing “The Cradle of Texas Road”. Montgomery soon realized that there were several key spots near Navasota that could be addressed in terms of defining events in Texas history.
Thoroughly researched and ambitious in scope, “The Cradle of Texas Road” explores this region of Texas to demonstrate how the Lone Star State has become a model of cultural integration in the United States.
The book also imparts sage commentary on modern life. “Society is locked in a web of polarization between races and cultures unique in our history,” explains Robin. “Today, there is no common reference point, except culture.”
The cover art, inspired by Theresa Thornhill(Digital Accents,LLC), and brought to fruition by Joe Kolb, is a prototype for a mural of Theresa’s off Main Street in Navasota, Texas.

About the Authors
Robin Navarro Montgomery is a native of Conroe, Texas, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma. He has published extensively in both political science and local history.
Joy Renee Montgomery, Robin’s daughter, is currently working on her PhD at Oxford Graduate School. Among her previous works is a book on Navasota.
