Dr Tariq Drabu Praises New Research on Public Knowledge of Dental Treatments

Speaking to us recently, Dr Tariq Drabu said, “New research has revealed some valuable information about how the public perceives orthodontic treatment. He went on to say, “I found many of the statistics quoted to be of great interest. For example, the research shows that nearly one fifth of the public respondents believed they could benefit from orthodontic treatment. I also found it particularly interesting that 85% of respondents highlighted costs as a consideration when choosing a treatment. I am sure that this relates to changes in NHS orthodontics and eligibility criteria. There seems little doubt that people understand the value and importance of accessing dental treatment and yet, clearly, the financial costs of treatments are a huge deciding factor for them.”
The research also reveals that quality of treatment is extremely important to the public. The report indicated that 95% of respondents believed quality of treatment was an important aspect when seeking treatment. We, as their dentists, should always strive to provide the very best quality dental care in every aspect of our service. I am pleased that quality is of such great importance to the public, this is just as it should be.”
Dr Tariq Drabu also said, “This is important research. The dental profession needs to understand the public, and we must be aware of how we are perceived. This is the only way we can continue to provide first class dental care, and give our patients the standards of dental treatment they expect. It is also important for us to understand the levels of knowledge our patients have. Are we giving them enough information? Are they aware of the treatments available to them, and are they aware of what these treatments can do for them? These are all essential questions that must be answered and this research is helping us provide them.”
He closed by saying, “Understanding the public’s knowledge of orthodontic treatments, and their attitudes toward teeth and dental care, will help us improve our service. In order to best serve our customers, we must understand our customers, and address their concerns by giving them the information and guidance they require. Research like this will help us to achieve these aims.”
