Dr Tariq Drabu Warns on the Increase in Oral Cancer Cases

Dr Tariq Drabu said “Statistics have shown that there has been a spike in oral cancer cases in the United Kingdom. The oral cancer statistics show the number of new cases has doubled in the past few years with men being affected more than women.”
Dr Tariq Drabu went on to say “2,500 people died from oral cancer in the United Kingdom in 2011. The importance to treatment success is early detection and many patients are not aware of any problems until it is too late, thereby lowering the survival rate. Oral cancer is the same as any other cancer and can spread if not detected early enough. There are treatment plans in place to help eradicate the cancer and offer the patients a good life.”
Dr Tariq Drabu closed in saying “It is imperative that patients are educated on the signs and symptoms associated with oral cancer, this can help reduce the number of fatalities associated with this disease. At Langley Dental Practice we always discuss the consumption of tobacco and alcohol with our patients and point out not only the risk of cancer but also the overall risks to general health of these two substances. Some of the signs and symptoms include mouth ulcers that don’t heal, white or red patches on the mouth or tongue lining, pain when swallowing and a hoarse voice, just to name a few. Early detection can improve the survival rate by up to a staggering ninety percent. Patients who have noticed any of the signs and symptoms associated with this disease should visit their medical professional as quickly as possible to reduce the risk of the disease spreading further, which is why we always encourage our patients to attend their routine check-up’s, enabling us to detect problems early on and put a treatment plan in place.”
