Dr. Walter Copan of RMIP Nominated to Lead NIST

Copan, Ph.D., a founding Board member and Director of Technology Transfer and Innovation of RMIP, has been nominated to serve as Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Dr. Copan is a proven executive with over three decades of successful experience leading organizations in research and development, intellectual property, technology transfer, product development, and global commercialization of innovative technologies. His entrepreneurial ventures include Clean Diesel Technologies, Inc. (CDTi), which he led to take public on NASDAQ as the company’s Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President. Previously, he was Managing Director, Technology Commercialization and Partnerships at Brookhaven National Laboratory, and Principal Licensing Executive, Technology Transfer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, after his long career in leadership at Lubrizol Corporation. Dr. Copan currently serves as President and CEO of IP Engineering Group Corporation, based in Monument, Colorado.
