Drawn To Discover Teaches Lost Art Of Cursive In 2018
CHICAGO (PRWEB) January 23, 2018 -- The visual literacy program, DrawnToDiscover.com, celebrates National Handwriting Day on January 23 by launching its newest product, Drawing Cursive. This new program teaches children how to write in cursive with creative, artful, and colorful lessons utilizing artistic pen strokes to teach the formation of cursive letters. Inspired to counteract the dearth of cursive writing and education in schools today, DrawnToDiscover.com co-founder, Wendy Anderson Halperin, decided it was time to bring back this forgotten art form.
Drawn To Discover Co-Founder, Brian Goodman, lamented, “I have a twelve year-old-son who cannot write. His school gave up teaching cursive and I wondered what it would be like for him to never be able to sign his own name. What would his driver’s license or legal documents look like as an adult? Then, Ms. Wendy developed a beautiful curriculum connecting art to this important fine motor skill and I knew we had to create this program.”
With this inspiration, Ms. Wendy set out to create the Drawing Cursive project at DrawnToDiscover.com. Drawing Cursive is a curriculum comprised of twenty-five (25) simple and fun lessons leading children through the strokes and skills of creating cursive lettering. Ms. Wendy uses shape formation, repetition, creative art compilations, and common words to teach users proper script. As always, DrawnToDiscover.com pushes its online video lessons beyond the point, click, and swipe of common, modern day supplemental education.
Dr. David Barrett, Drawn To Discover’s director of research and education, echoed the need for a such a program, “The research is clear: handwriting, especially cursive, is integral for brain development, literacy, and learning. It is encouraging to see many states across the country, like Illinois and Ohio, renew the requirement for cursive instruction. My hope is that more and more states, districts, and schools will follow suit.
