The Cardinals beat the Red Sox in the World Series in 1946 and '67. The Red Sox returned the favor with a sweep in 2004 that broke an 86-year "curse”, commonly known as a World Series championship drought.

According to baseball pundits, there are more similarities than differences between these two teams, and that will be the biggest draw in this World Series. The managers, Mike Matheny with St. Louis and Boston's John Farrell, are still very early in their careers.

The Red Sox are famous for grinding out at-bats and working feverishly to raise pitch counts and run the opposing starting pitcher to the showers by the fifth or sixth inning.
The Cardinals were especially proficient with runners in scoring position this summer, their .330 batting average ranking as the highest of any major-league team since 1974. In those situations, they also batted .305 with runners in scoring position and two out, and .370 with the bases loaded (with four grand slams).
Coming from last season, though, there are vast differences. In 2012, the Red Sox finished in last place and underwent a bit of a roster overhaul, starting with unloading Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett and Nick Punto in August. The Cardinals, on the other hand, came just one game shy of making their second straight World Series.
The Boston Red Sox won the first World Series in 1903 and have appeared 12 times, winning seven for a .636 winning percentage. The St. Louis Cardinals have made 19 World Series appearances, winning 11 for a .661 winning percentage. Baseball pundits predict that St. Louis will edge Boston in Game Six for the title.
