Driving Safety and Travel Tips for the Holiday Season
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) November 27, 2013 -- According to AAA there will be a 1.5% decrease in travelers this year compared to last year. Most travelers will be driving, but the decrease in drivers will go unnoticed since it’s in the millions. What can be expected from the travel?
It is imperative to prepare and account for the common weather delays that can be extremely dangerous to any moving vehicle. Currently, the northeastern states are experiencing harsh weather conditions that may lead to flight delays. Be sure to check weather conditions locally and of the final destination of travel. Also, be sure to keep family or friends updated with the flight status when flying because some airlines tend to cancel or delay flights without much notice. This approach will ensure the other party can arrange for any delays, otherwise they will be obligated to wait more than expected.
It is also helpful to review the rules and regulations before airline travel. For those passengers who do not travel frequently, the TSA website should be used to become familiar with regulations which may avoid certain delays at airport security checkpoints. Additionally, reading the airline company’s baggage and charge policy will assist in preparing the traveler for any unexpected fees.
Comedy Driving, a defensive driving course, would like to advise those driving, to inspect the automobiles that will be used for travel and check the weather as well. Before going on a long trip go through a detail inspection on the vehicle. If possible, have a professional complete the inspection.
Always drive with caution and do not speed or drive carelessly. Be on the lookout for construction, ice, rain or any road delays. Driving too fast or careless is always dangerous. Some roadways maybe congested so be sure to drive with patience. Do not drive aggressively and be courteous to other drivers.
Avoid being a distracted driver and concentrate on driving alone. Texting and driving along with other distractions can cause accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA, reports that last year 3,328 people were killed because of distracted driving. Distracted driving affects everyone and remember that an accident can occur instantly when one takes their eyes off the road.
The defensive driving course, Comedy Driving, would also like to remind everyone to not drink and drive. This is never a good idea and law enforcement officers will be on the lookout for offenders. Some cities like Fort Worth, Texas are reminding motorists that this weekend is “No Refusal.” This basically means that law enforcement will take extra measures to catch suspected drunk drivers.
Finally, look out for emergency vehicles or vehicles that have pulled over to the side of a street or the highway. States such as Texas require that motorists move over to a lane away from the emergency vehicle. If this law is not followed, motorists do face a fine. Be sure to follow all highway laws.
