Drop Electric Drops Two New Tracks in Intimate Mobtown Studios BSides Session
Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) April 03, 2014 -- Mobtown Studios is releasing two exclusive tracks by Drop Electric, a DC-based post-rock band, along with a behind-the-scenes documentary. Working with Mat Leffler-Schulman, known for being a “musician’s producer” who’s worked with Future Islands, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Waka Flocka Flame, Drop Electric brings the infectious energy of their live show into the studio for Mobtown's project series known as "The BSides Sessions" (http://www.mobtownstudios.com/bsides/?utm_source=pr&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=pr032714prw). The session captures that vibrancy and adds a dash of studio polish plus a big dose of intimate afterparty conversation that allows for unique insights into the band and their music.
“Recording our BSides Session at Mobtown was a completely different studio experience than the ones I've known,” said Kristina Reznikov, lead vocalist and guitarist for Drop Electric. “Mobtown pushes you to be as creative as you can be. Mat knew just what to do with our sound, which is very layered and loud. That was a great feeling.” Mat takes pride in that push. “I believe in giving bands the space to make music they believe in. I’m there as a guide to help them produce records that move people.”
Hearkening back to the vinyl era of “a-sides” (popular, released singles) and “b-sides” (lesser known but often beloved fan favorites), the BSides Sessions, produced and released every month, provide bands with a unique opportunity to give music lovers a different take on their songwriting. “By shacking up with a band for a day and digging down a little deeper into their music and their story, we hope to expose something previously unheard and maybe catch a glimpse of the soft belly of the band,” says Mat.
Drop Electric chose to work with Mobtown Studios on a BSides Session knowing that Mat and the rest of the Mobtown crew would “get” their sound and artistic vision, and bring it to life for their fans. After tracking the songs, the band sat down for a conversation with Aaron Henkin (WYPR’s “The Signal) and spent some time being photographed by Tedd Henn (hennpict studio) to complete the project, which is available April 8th for free on the Mobtown Studios website. So far, nationally touring bands like Kentucky’s Morning Teleportation (Glacial Pace Recordings), Boston’s Guillermo Sexo (Midriff Records), Baltimore’s The Flying Eyes (Noisolution), New York’s Divining Rod, and Brooklyn’s Starlight Girls have joined Mat in the studio. Future sessions have been scheduled with a range of artists including up-and-coming groups as well as seminal indie rockers.
