Drs. Mario J. Canal and Ben Calem, Periodontists in Moorestown and Medford, NJ, Launch New Year of Pinnacle Dental Study Club of South Jersey
Moorestown, NJ (PRWEB) October 10, 2017 -- With the start of the academic season approaching, Drs. Mario J. Canal and Ben Calem, periodontists in Moorestown and Medford, NJ, are proud to begin another year as directors of the Pinnacle Dental Study Club of South Jersey. This organization is a branch of the prestigious Seattle Study Club, a progressive institution of advanced dental education.
The philosophy of the Seattle Study Club is to provide a non-competitive environment where dental clinicians of varying educational backgrounds and experience can come together to learn about the latest procedures and protocols for treatment planning. Since 2008, Drs. Canal and Calem have brought in speakers from all over the world to educate their study club members. Their focus within the club has always been to emphasize the importance of ‘Interdisciplinary Treatment Planning’ as a means to provide their patients with leading care. This concept incorporates feedback from all of the dental specialties (orthodontist, endodontist, etc.), as well as the patient’s restorative dentist, in order to attain an ideal treatment from both a functional and esthetic perspective. The open communication both Drs. Canal and Calem have with their restorative colleagues provides the patient with the confidence that their dental needs will be addressed and that the desired outcome is achievable.
As with any professional field, the one constant in dentistry is change. In order to better understand and capitalize on rapidly evolving technology, Drs. Canal and Calem insist that the programs they develop keep their members properly educated. This year, they are proud to incorporate a presentation devoted to digital dentistry. Using their CBCT machine, they are able to have a better understanding of patients’ bone density levels before creating custom dental implant treatment plans. This, in turn, will provide the restorative dentist the opportunity to complete the implant with a crown restoration of better form and function – thus minimizing potential long-term complications.
In the spring, Drs. Canal and Calem will be hosting an all-day presentation on implant-retained appliances, with a strong focus on the All-on-4® surgical technique. If patients are candidates for this newly developed treatment, they have the ability to undergo the placement of four dental implants and have a temporary denture fitted immediately. This procedure eliminates the use of a temporary, removable denture during the healing phase of implant therapy. Since the success of these procedures is contingent upon the understanding of both the surgical and restorative protocol involved, their study club provides an outlet by which their colleagues are well informed.
Although there are many opportunities to partake in continuing dental education, Drs. Canal and Calem believe their study club is unique. They strive to create a non-threatening atmosphere where they can engage with their colleagues and discuss challenging patient cases. By being proactive in education, they make every effort to ensure their patients receive the best therapy, based on the most recent studies and newly developed treatment modalities.
