DrugNews Adds New Blood Clot Warning for Women Using Yaz
New York, NY (PRWEB) February 19, 2014 -- The birth control safety center at DrugNews.net is alerting users of the contraceptives Yaz or Yasmin of new information on the site. Health experts in the United Kingdom recently ordered a warning for patients that the drugs may greatly increase the rate of blood clots*.
At the same time, court records show thousands of cases pending in the United States with allegations that the drugs caused blood clot injuries**.
DrugNews was created to share the latest recalls, safety alerts, research and litigation news with patients taking popular prescription drugs. Visitors can recognize potential dangers, see if others are experiencing similar side effects and decide if they need legal advice.
The birth control center has added health warnings from experts such as the FDA*** and British Medical Journal**** that oral contraceptives like Yaz and Yasmin that contain the hormone drospirenone can increase the risk of blood clots.
DrugNews has now learned that the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) of the United Kingdom has ordered general practitioners to warn women taking certain birth control pills, including Yasmin, that they are nearly twice as likely to develop blood clots*.
In the U.S., a number of patients have filed a Yaz lawsuit alleging side effects, leading cases to be consolidated in a special federal court (Yasmin and Yaz (Drospirenone) Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation (MDL No. 2100, Southern District Illinois)).
The latest court records show 9,781 claims pending**. However, Bayer has spent nearly $1.575 billion so far to settle around 7,660 Yaz lawsuits alleging blood clot injuries like pulmonary embolism or deep vein thrombosis (DVT)*****.
Anyone who suffered a blood clot, DVT, stroke or pulmonary embolism after taking Yaz or Yasmin, or with questions about the ongoing settlements, is urged to visit DrugNews or speak with a lawyer about their legal options.
Due to the specialized nature of these cases, DrugNews only recommends lawyers who have already settled Yaz lawsuits.
