DrugNews: Court Update Shows Drop In Yaz Lawsuits As Settlements Continue
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 25, 2013 -- The birth control safety center at DrugNews.net is announcing updated information for women who’ve taken the contraceptives Yaz or Yasmin. The latest court records show the number of lawsuits alleging Yaz side effects has dropped as the drug maker continues to settle claims*.
DrugNews was created to improve the safety of patients taking popular prescription drugs by publicizing the latest research, safety alerts, recalls and legal news. Visitors can find out if others are experiencing similar side effects and decide if they need legal advice.
The resource center has added warnings from health experts like the British Medical Journal** and FDA*** that birth control pills containing the hormone drospirenone, such as Yaz and Yasmin, can increase the risk of blood clots.
Due to the number of patients who have already filed a Yaz lawsuit alleging side effects, cases were consolidated to a special federal Multi-District Litigation court in Illinois (Yasmin and Yaz (Drospirenone) Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation (MDL No. 2100, Southern District Illinois)).
DrugNews has added information showing the maker of the drugs, Bayer, has spent approximately $1.4 billion so far to settle more than 6,750 claims alleging blood clot injuries like pulmonary embolism or deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and will continue to evaluate claims for settlement****.
Now, the resource center has learned the latest report from the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation shows the number of pending claims has fallen slightly from 9,868 on August 15th to 9,838 on September 11*.
Lawyers are still helping those affected. Anyone who suffered a blood clot, DVT, stroke or pulmonary embolism after taking Yaz or Yasmin can learn their options by contacting the DrugNews Center or speaking with a lawyer.
Due to the complexity of federal MDL cases, patients should seek a lawyer with experience in defective drug litigation. DrugNews only recommends lawyers who have already settled Yaz lawsuits.
