DrugNews: Latest Court Records Show Growth of Byetta Lawsuits Alleging Cancer
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 26, 2013 -- The diabetes drug resource center at DrugNews.net is announcing new information for patients taking the medication Byetta. The latest court records show that the number of lawsuits alleging drugs like Byetta caused cancer has more than doubled in less than a month*.
DrugNews is a free resource offering the latest information on recalls, safety alerts, research and litigation news to those taking popular prescription drugs. Patients can see if others are experiencing similar side effects and decide if they need legal advice.
Byetta is a popular injectable-type medication sold by Bristol-Myers Squibb, which is prescribed to those with type-II diabetes to lower blood sugar levels**.
The resource center has added warnings about a possible Byetta link to cancer. A 2011 study from UCLA suggested the drug could increase the risk of pancreatic cancer and thyroid cancer***. This year, the Journal for the American Medical Association also advised that drugs like Byetta can double the risk of pancreatitis, a major risk factor for pancreatic cancer****.
DrugNews recently added a study by the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, finding that, of 1,069 diabetes drug pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, thyroid cancer or hypersensitivity cases reported to the FDA in 2012, 612 were linked to Byetta*****.
Due to the number of patients expected to file a Byetta lawsuit alleging the drug caused cancer, cases were consolidated to a special federal multidistrict litigation court. (In Re: Incretin-Based Therapies Products Liability Litigation, MDL 2452, Southern District of California).
Now, DrugNews has learned that the latest update from the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation shows the number of cases alleging cancer from either Byetta, Januvia, Janumet or Victoza has more than doubled from 60 on September 11 to 150 on October 17*.
Anyone affected by cancer after taking Byetta is encouraged to visit the DrugNews center or speak with a lawyer about their legal options. However, DrugNews only recommends lawyers who have already handled these complex Byetta lawsuits.
