DrugRisk Adds Latest Updates on Mirena FDA Reports and Lawsuits
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 26, 2013 -- The birth control safety center at DrugRisk.com has added updated information for women using the IUD contraceptive Mirena. The FDA has reported over 70,000 side effect complaints linked to the device as court records show the number of women who’ve filed lawsuits alleging perforation injuries has nearly doubled in recent months*.
DrugRisk provides those using popular prescription drugs and devices with the latest safety alerts, recalls, studies and legal news to improve patient safety and awareness. Visitors can determine if others are experiencing similar side effects and decide if they need legal advice.
The resource center has added health warnings from the FDA that the implantation of Mirena IUDs can result in perforation of reproductive organs**. Also, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons has advised that Mirena IUDs can become dislodged and perforate internal organs after they are inserted in place***.
DrugRisk has also added a new report showing the FDA has received 70,072 adverse event or side effect complaints among women using Mirena since 2000, with as many as 6,000 of these involving device dislocation or perforation of the uterine wall, which can require surgery****.
Due to the number of patients filing a Mirena lawsuit, many cases have been consolidated to a special multi-district litigation court in the Southern District of New York under the oversight of U.S. District Judge Cathy Seibel. (In Re: Mirena IUD Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2434).
Now, DrugRisk has learned that the latest report from the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation shows the number of cases has nearly doubled in recent months, from 53 on May 15th to 105 on July 10*. Judge Seibel has scheduled the next Mirena hearing for August 14th.
Anyone who suffered perforation or required surgery while using a Mirena IUD is urged to speak with a lawyer or visit the DrugRisk resource center for more information. However, DrugRisk only recommends lawyers who are already handling Mirena lawsuits.
