DrugRisk Alerts of Latest Yaz Warnings and Lawsuit News
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) July 30, 2013 -- The birth control safety center at DrugRisk.com has added new information for women who’ve taken the contraceptives Yaz or Yasmin. A new warning out of Canada comes as updated court records show the amount of patients filing a Yaz lawsuit alleging blood clot injuries has increased in recent months*.
DrugRisk was created to give patients taking popular prescription drugs greater awareness and safety, by sharing the latest research, safety alerts, recalls and legal news. Visitors can find out if others have experienced similar side effects and decide if they need legal advice.
The resource center contains warnings from health experts like the British Medical Journal** and FDA*** that birth control pills such as Yaz, which contain the hormone drospirenone, can increase the rate of blood clots. A new report from Health Canada also suggests the drugs may be responsible for 23 patient deaths from blood clots****.
Now, DrugRisk has learned that the number of patients filing a Yasmin lawsuit alleging side effects like blood clots has increased from 9,961 on May 15th to 9,998 on July 10*. Due to the volume, cases have been consolidated to a special federal Multi-District Litigation court in Illinois (Yasmin and Yaz (Drospirenone) Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation (MDL No. 2100, Southern District Illinois)).
Bayer, the maker of the drugs, has been working to resolve claims. So far, the company has spent nearly $1 billion to settle around 5,000 Yaz lawsuits alleging blood clot injuries like pulmonary embolism, stroke or deep vein thrombosis (DVT)****.
Lawyers are still helping those affected. Anyone who suffered a blood clot, DVT, stroke or Pulmonary Embolism after taking Yaz or Yasmin is urged to contact the Drug Risk Center or speak with a lawyer about their legal options.
Due to the specialized nature of federal MDL cases, patients should seek a lawyer with experience in defective drug litigation. DrugRisk only recommends lawyers who have already settled Yaz lawsuits.
