Duane Capps Installed as International President for Civitan's Centennial Year
Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) October 05, 2016 -- Duane Capps, of Greensboro, North Carolina, was recently installed as International President of the nonprofit organization Civitan International. Founded in Birmingham, Civitan is a nonprofit organization of community service clubs, with roughly 40,000 active members around the world. Members devote their free time to helping people in need, especially those with developmental disabilities. This is most prominently seen in the UAB Civitan International Research Center, founded in 1992 with the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Since then, Civitan clubs around the world have donated more than $17.5 million to research into developmental disabilities at the Center.
Capps has been a volunteer for Civitan in 1996, and is an active member of the Southeast Guilford Civitan Club. He has served as president of the Southeast Guilford Civitan Club, as well as numerous other offices in the organization. He and his wife Lisa (also a Civitan) live in Greensboro, where he works for Pella Carolina, Inc. His term as International President began on October 1, 2016.
2017 will mark the centennial anniversary of Civitan's founding in Birmingham, Alabama. This historic year will mark a century of service by Civitan clubs. It will culminate in the organization's centennial convention in Birmingham in June 2017, when Civitans from around the world will celebrate this occasion.
Capps says, "This year isn't just a celebration of Civitan's history. All our clubs are celebrating this year by working to make a real difference in our communities, and get started on another century of service. We're all very excited."
