Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel Set to Bend Big Ears Festival
ATLANTA (PRWEB) March 19, 2018 -- March is a big month for Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel (DfTaLS).
The critically acclaimed experimental duo out of Atlanta, GA, is set to play their first Big Ears Festival, held March 22-25 in Knoxville, TN. They are also releasing the vinyl version of their third album, 10, celebrating 10 years of creating improvised soundscapes.
“We’ve attended Big Ears for years now,” says Scott Burland, the band’s theremin player. “The artists who play the festival have inspired us to keep growing and exploring. It’s an honor that we now get to join them onstage.”
DfTaLS will perform three occasions during Big Ears, the acclaimed music and film festival which has previously featured such luminaries as Philip Glass, the Kronos Quartet, and Laurie Anderson. This year’s featured artists include Bang on a Can All-Stars, Medeski, Martin & Wood as well as jazz legends Roscoe Mitchell and Evan Parker. “We’re celebrating by releasing our latest album, "10," on vinyl,” says Frank Schultz, the band’s lap steel guitar player. “The album is a reflective musing on our decade making music together, and it feels right to put it out there on vinyl at such a milestone in our career.”
DfTaLS's scheduled appearances at the festival are:
Thursday, March 22nd 10:00pm at The Standard (with Atlanta filmmaker Robbie Land)
Friday, March 23rd 10:00pm at The Pretentious Glass Company, a collaborative performance with Matthew Cummings, providing a live, improvised accompaniment to live glassblowing.
Sunday, March 25 1:00am at The Standard as part of the 12-Hour Drone.
Long a fixture of Atlanta’s experimental music scene, DfTaLS has toured in France and the UK, and throughout most of the American South, Midwest and Eastern Seaboard. They have previously played the electro-music festival, MEME Festival, Slingshot Festival, Moog Etherfest, and AUX Festival.
DfTaLS has collaborated with leading visionary musicians including Shaking Ray Levis, Bill Brovold, Helena Espvall, Richard Lainhart, Andrew Weathers, Jeff Crompton and Benjamin Shirley. In the process, they have garnered a loyal following of active, advanced listeners of classical and experimental music.
10, the album that is essentially ten years in the making, manages to capture the band’s ethereal improvised spirit on record.
