Duncan Lewis Immigration Solicitors call for evidence on the closure of the Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) route
London, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 20 August 2014 -- Duncan Lewis Solicitors, a Legal 500 2013 recommended firm of Immigration Solicitors have called for evidence from those affected by the closure of the Tier 1(PSW) route for international students.
A statement on the firm’s website states:
“Are you a University, business (of any size), charity, support organisation or a student? Have you been affected by the closure to the Tier 1 (Post-Study Work (PSW) route? If so, Duncan Lewis would like to hear from you.”
The firm have called for all comments to be submitted to them no later than 30th September 2013.
The inquiry into the closure of the Tier 1 (PSW) immigration route will examine the effects of the closure of the category on Universities, students and local economies, which was officially closed on 6th April 2012.
The inquiry outline is available for download by clicking here.
Kapil Pankhania, of Duncan Lewis' Business Immigration Department stated:
“The Tier 1 Post-study work (PSW) category was officially closed on 6 April 2012 by the Home Office. The route was intended to retain the most able international graduates who studied in the UK. Successful applicants were able to freely seek employment without the need for a Tier 2 Sponsor for the duration of their Tier 1 (PSW) leave.
The category provided a bridge to highly skilled or skilled work. The effect of the closure of the category has affected many individuals, Universities, businesses - small and large. There was widespread concern whether the UK would be able to compete with other countries in continuing to attract top international students. As a result, many have suffered.
The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Migration has launched an inquiry into the closure of the Tier 1 (PSW) route. At Duncan Lewis, we represent clients of all nature. If you are an individual, University or a business, we would welcome your thoughts on how the closure of the category has affected you.”
Duncan Lewis has stated on their website that comments will be sought on the following questions in particular:
- What has been the impact on international student numbers or demographic profile;
- What has been the impact on businesses and universities;
- Has there been any wider economic or social impact at local/regional level or nationally;
- How has the closure of the Tier 1 (PSW) route been viewed internationally;
- Has it had any implications for foreign trade and commerce or wider diplomatic relations; and
- What approach have our competitors in the international student market taken to post-study work opportunities?
