DuPont Announces Donation to Wounded Warrior Project™
Richmond, Va. (PRWEB) October 23, 2013 -- DuPont announces a donation of $10,000 to Wounded Warrior Project™ (WWP), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors. The donation will help support a full range of programs and services for this generation of injured service members and their families.
Over 51,000 servicemen and women have been injured in recent military conflicts. In addition to the physical wounds, it is estimated as many as 400,000 service members live with the invisible wounds of war including combat-related stress, major depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Another 320,000 are believed to have experienced a traumatic brain injury while on deployment. WWP’s 18 programs and services are uniquely structured to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment and engagement.
“Wounded Warrior Project provides an incredible amount of support to injured veterans and service members and we are honored to support their efforts with this donation,” said William Weber, vice president, DuPont Protection Technologies. “DuPont is known for making DuPont™ Kevlar® and Nomex® fibers to help keep members of the U.S. Armed Forces safe on the job, but our commitment to the military goes far beyond those fibers. We respect the sacrifice and service to our country that our service members provide every day.”
DuPont has a long history of supporting the military and continues that commitment with an active focus on hiring veterans. The company has a goal that at least 10 percent of all new hires are veterans and proactively reaches out to veteran organizations and networks to reach this target. Additionally, the DuPont Veterans Network assists veterans as they integrate into DuPont; the network seeks to advocate on veterans affairs and employment within DuPont and to instill the finest traditions of military service to DuPont - traditions that foster integrity, excellence, service and leadership in business and community endeavors.
The donation was presented by DuPont executives to Charlie Abell, Policy and Government Affairs executive vice president; John Molino, chief of staff for Programs; and Brian Nichols, warrior to work specialist, of WWP at AUSA 2013, an annual professional development forum and expo hosted by the Association of the United States Army.
The mission of Wounded Warrior Project™ (WWP) is to honor and empower wounded warriors. WWP’s purpose is to raise awareness and to enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.
