Dyn Adds Three Major DNS Leaders as Principal Architects
Manchester, NH (PRWEB) October 30, 2013 -- Dyn, the worldwide leader in Internet performance solutions, announced the hiring of three major presences in the Internet infrastructure space as Joe Abley, João Damas, and Dave Knight will be joining the company’s newly-created architecture team as Principal Architects.
The three new hires join the architecture team led by Chief Architect Matt Larson, and has been charged with looking at the company’s systems to ensure they are more scalable, more reliable and higher performing. This team also includes Principal Architect Andrew Sullivan and distinguished engineer Phil Stanhope.
“We are committed to hiring the best technical minds in the world and the announcement of Joe, Dave and João joining the Dyn team proves how serious we are,” Larson said. “They are well-known in the industry. Between the three of them, they've worked on four of the 13 root name servers, and are already working on something new and very exciting that may disrupt the DNS industry. Stay tuned.”
About Joe Abley
As the Director of DNS Operations at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Abley was responsible for the design, deployment, and operation of public DNS and DNSSEC infrastructure.
Abley has spent more than 15 years consulting and working on systems and service architecture, architecture and protocol engineering, operation of critical Internet DNS infrastructure, and globally-dispersed infrastructure deployment with experience on-site in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa and North America.
He has previously served as Director of the Toronto Internet Exchange, Executive Director of the Internet Architecture Board (IAB), Steering Committee Chair at NANOG, and an Operations Engineer at the Internet Systems Consortium.
“Nobody I've met at Dyn so far has much time for how things are normally done,” said Abley. “Normal is old news, and Dyn is filled with new thinking: people are planning not just for better or faster, but for whole new ways of looking at service delivery that make better and faster look tired and sad. The whole place stinks of the future.”
About João Damas
Damas has worked at ISC since 2003, most recently as CTO. Responsible for the expansive anycast deployment of the DNS F-root server, he has managed the evolution of BIND and the startup of the BIND 10 Project.
Earlier, he served as CTO at RIPE NCC, one of five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) supporting the operation of the Internet globally. While at RIPE, he redesigned and implemented the RIPE Database, analyzed and updated internal systems, worked to define RIPE policies together with the ISP Community, and designed and started implementation of the RIPE LIR portal, currently in production.
“Dyn has an exciting go-getter culture with everyone aligned on doing their best and changing the game,” said Damas. “It is great to be joining such a group of forward thinking people.”
About Dave Knight
Knight has spent more than 15 years working in Internet operations and engineering. In addition to running his own consulting firm since 2009, he is also involved with many Internet organizations, frequently presenting work at the DNS-OARC and RIPE meetings.
Knight has worked at ICANN since 2009, most recently as DNS Operations Manager. Prior to that, he, along with Larson, was a Director at the DNS Operations, Analysis and Research Center (DNS-OARC). Like Damas, Knight has also worked with ISC and RIPE NCC. Throughout his career, he has been involved in significant Internet critical infrastructure projects, the operation of three Internet root name servers, the deployment of DNSSEC in the .ORG, and Internet root zones.
“The obvious passion for technology among the Dyn team is a shock to the senses,” Knight said. “It's infectious.”
