e2b calibration Expands Internal Quality Initiatives with 5S Implementation
Chardon, Ohio (PRWEB) February 10, 2016 -- e2b calibration has implemented new practices throughout its accredited calibration facility to enhance quality services and turnaround time for clients. These practices have reduced the time it takes to calibrate customer equipment and instruments and ensuring high quality test results and precision demanded in highly-regulated industries.
5S is a Japanese quality improvement technique which utilizes five strategies to improve product and service quality; sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain. Each phase of 5S works to organize the equipment, maintain a clean and efficient workspace, and decrease wasted time.
“We provide quality assurance services to our customers,” said Mike Miner, Quality Manager at e2b calibration. “5S has already helped us improve turn-around time dramatically because we don’t have to waste time looking for equipment and we’re confident that all of our equipment is properly maintained. This is critical for our customers who rely on us to provide the highest quality services possible with the fastest possible turnaround time so they can have their equipment back in order to do their jobs and better serve their customers.”
Additional quality initiatives have been implemented including improvements in procedure training which goes beyond requirements set forth by ANAB, the accrediting body of ISO 17025 standards governing accredited calibration metrology laboratories.
“We’ve always provided training on calibration procedures,” Miner said. “But we’ve expanded this to include much more detailed training documents with post-training proficiency tests – added measures that our accreditation doesn’t require. Proficiency tests ensure that every technician understands and performs the calibration procedure in a consistent way improving the quality assurance our customers demand when they entrust us with their equipment.”
Further, the calibration lab has implemented standard hours to ensure quick return times on client equipment. By establishing standard hours for different procedures, the quality and lab management team has a resource to plan ahead of schedule ensuring customers receive their equipment back before their expected return date.
“We know how long it should take a technician to perform certain tasks,” Miner said. “The standard hours practice streamlines our process in the lab, allowing us to put priority tasks first and put in the extra work, if needed, to meet deadlines.”
