Earth Day 2015 - San Diego Mom's Invention Transforms House Cleaning Into Environment Saving
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) March 18, 2015 -- With Earth Day quickly approaching, it is a good time for families to think about their habits and what small changes can be made to be more environmentally-friendly. Most of us are already making efforts to recycle and reuse, but what about reducing? Experts say that even with some rainfall this season, many places are still in a serious drought. A recently published LA Times editorial says that California has 1 year of water left and calls for water rationing.
A San Diego mother of three, Jessica Rowin, has a new exciting invention that she has been working on for the last year to reduce water usage and eliminate disposable mop wipes.
“If you think about it there is a lot of waste that goes on when keeping a home clean, especially if you have children," says Rowin. "Paper usage and water really add up."
Inspired by Swiffer refill sheets piling up in her trash, she got an idea. It was simple: wrap a small towel around her kitchen broom. But even a simple idea needs improvement.
“After a year of testing different materials and shapes, I came up with a new eco-friendly cleaning tool," explains Rowin. "It’s a spot mop pad that fits on your existing broom! It uses very little water, doesn't create waste with disposable wipes and cleans in a new way that really gets the job done. My friends and family who have helped me test it love how it works."
Jessica hopes that others will join her as she launches the invention that she calls “The Broom Huggie" (tm) to the public with crowd-funding on Kickstarter starting mid March 2015. "I really believe that we can make a big difference when we reduce at every opportunity," says Rowin, "taking little steps towards making a big difference collectively."
