Napa, CA (PRWEB) April 17, 2014 -- The ultimate Earth Day story is on tap this year as restaurants and venues nationwide, including Pebble Beach Resorts, Marriott Hotels and Caesars Entertainment, have significantly reduced their waste by installing wine on tap. Free Flow Wines, the pioneer in this space, today unveiled new waste reduction numbers that showcase the green benefits and lower carbon emissions that wine on tap offers. Free Flow Wines has removed more than 2 million wine bottles from landfills and has allowed the wine and hospitality industries to move away from bottles and disposable packages to a sustainable, environmentally friendly way of serving wine.
“Every new keg we put into service is like taking an average car off the road for two years,” said Dan Donahoe, Co-Founder and Chairman of Free Flow Wines. “By skipping the excess packaging and solid waste that comes from wine bottles or disposable plastic kegs, venues around the country are reducing their carbon footprint while serving wine in the freshest possible way. In fact, by using reusable kegs rather than one-way disposable kegs, we are able to deliver the same amount of wine but with at least a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions.”
Free Flow Wines offers premium wine brands in 100% reusable stainless steel kegs. A Free Flow Wines keg holds the equivalent of 26 wine bottles and each keg that goes into distribution will save 2,340 lbs. of trash from the landfill over its lifetime.
“Pebble Beach Resorts expects to reduce our glass recycling output by more than eight tons this year,” said Wendy Heilmann, Director of Wine & Spirits at Pebble Beach Resorts. “Free Flow has allowed us to cut down on waste, while serving the spectacular wines our customers expect from us.”
“We are dedicated to removing the material waste that has been the dirty little secret of the wine industry since its inception,” said Jordan Kivelstadt, the Co-Founder and CEO of Free Flow Wines. “Over the 20-year life of a Free Flow keg, we reduce the carbon footprint of the same amount of wine poured from bottles by 96%. In addition to our innovative water reclamation system that replaces over 1 million gallons of water each year, Free Flow Wines has removed material waste from U.S. landfills including 2 million bottles, or 4.5 million pounds of trash and we will remove 10 million bottles, or 7,500 tons of trash, by 2015."
Thanks to Free Flow Wines' kegging and logistics services more than 350 premium wines are now on tap at more than 2,000 restaurants, hotels, sports, and entertainment venues nationwide. The Free Flow Wines kegging equipment was custom built for placing fine wine safely into kegs and their state-of-the-art facility has been vetted by the wine industry’s most sophisticated quality control teams. Premium wine in the Free Flow kegs never sees oxygen so it’s guaranteed fresh and there is no wasted wine. Free Flow Wines currently fills more than 8,000 kegs per month for wineries and distributes the kegs to thousands of venues around the country. They will increase their fleet to 45,000 kegs by the end of the year.
