Houston, TX (PRWEB) April 29, 2014 -- American Textile Recycling Service participated in 24 official Earth Day celebrations across the United States during the month of April. Over 250,000 Earth Day attendees learned about the second life of recycled textiles and the positive impact it has on creating greener cities. The company's green recycling fairies and volunteers dressed in distinctive ATRS RECYCLE HERE tees were on hand to distribute wildflower bracelets and share the message that clothing is not trash, it is one of the world's most renewable resources.
Community education was at the forefront of Earth Day 2014 celebrations. Hundreds of students gathered for Michigan's Earth Day to paint upcycled quilts for rescue animals at the Michigan Humane Society. Children attending the Earth Day Celebration at Woodlawn Lake in San Antonio were taught how fun and easy it is to recycle by participating in an interactive Cloth Toss game with ATRS Recycling Bins.
Community engagement was high as neighborhoods supported onsite recycling campaigns at Earth Day events in Central Florida, Dallas, Southern California and others. Participants at these events dropped off a bag of clothing, shoes, toys and other household textiles and did their part to offset the 75lbs of textile materials thrown away by the average American in every household.
"Earth Day is a tremendous opportunity to remind families, co-workers, students and municipal leaders to do our part to create Green Cities year-round," says Debra Stevenson Peganyee, Chief Marketing Officer of ATRS. "It's easy to impact the communities where we live, work and play just by diverting what we no longer need from our own closets."
Earth Day 2014 attendees can drop off any and all unwanted clothing, shoes, toys and household textiles year-round at ATRS Clothing & Shoe Recycling bins in 13 cities nationwide. To find the bin nearest you call the 24-Hr Hotline 866-900-9308.
