East Bay Gives Raises More Than $1 Million for Local Nonprofits
OAKLAND, CA (PRWEB) June 15, 2016 -- East Bay Gives raised more than $1 million for more than 500 nonprofits throughout Alameda and Contra Costa counties--a record for the third annual event. The online giving blitz successfully rallied more than 8,000 donors to support the local nonprofits that make the East Bay region a special place to live, work and thrive.
“The generosity of the East Bay community is truly inspiring,” said James Head, CEO of the East Bay Community Foundation (http://www.ebcf.org), which organized the event with support from major sponsors. “Together, we showed what can happen when we give back and give local. We increase access for everyone in our region to live in safe and healthy environments, to have opportunities they need to succeed and thrive, and to enjoy not only basic necessities but also extras like the abundant natural resources and cultural offerings.”
The 24-hour campaign began at midnight on May 3. It was extended until midnight May 5 due to technical difficulties with the Kimbia platform, an issue that impacted giving days nationwide. The Foundation and many participating nonprofits encouraged donors to give directly via organizations’ websites. The total amount raised reflects these donations as well as matching funds.
In all, the 2016 campaign exceeded last year’s results in every area. From the number of participating nonprofits, which grew by 38 percent since 2015, to almost doubling the total number of donors, and increasing total donations by more than 55 percent. The funds support organizations doing essential work in the East Bay in education, health, youth development, the arts and much more.
“We’d like to congratulate all of the participating nonprofits that raised much-needed funds to improve the quality of life for everyone who calls the East Bay home,” said Head. “We look forward to our continued partnership next year and to keep exceeding previous records.”
The East Bay Community Foundation thanks the sponsors that made this record-setting day of giving possible: Kaiser Permanente, Pandora, InVision Communications, Graystone Consulting, Rogers Family Foundation, Give Something Back, KBLX, KQED, KCBS, Lam Research, Community Bank of the Bay Area, Diablo Magazine and San Francisco Business Times.
