Eastern Kentucky University Announces Emergency Medical Services Online Degree Programs
Richmond, Kentucky (PRWEB) March 17, 2015 -- The Emergency Medical Care Program at Eastern Kentucky University will launch two 100% online degree options in Fall 2015.
Paramedics licensed by any state or territory of the United States or certified by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) can earn an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with EKU Online. The Associate of Science Paramedicine A.S.P. will allow individuals to earn a college degree in their chosen field. Those looking to move into administrative roles later in their career will be able to earn an online bachelor’s degree in emergency medical care that includes an emergency services administration option.
Founded in 1978, the EKU Emergency Medical Care Program was the second program in the nation to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Today, they are one of only twelve schools with CAAHEP accreditation. Departmental data indicates that bachelor’s degree recipients advance to administrative positions just two years after graduation.
“Employers seek out our graduates, and we are extremely proud of that,” said EKU Emergency Medical Care Program Director Bill Young.
Online Program Coordinator Nancye Davis explained that the emergency medical profession makes it difficult to pursue a traditional on-campus degree because the field requires alternate hours and long shifts. “Our hope is that these online degree options give working paramedics an opportunity to continue working while earning their degree and, ultimately, advance their careers,” she said.
EKU Online Emergency Medical Services degree programs will provide students with:
- A personal advisor who will create a graduation plan that allows then to meet their academic goals and their professional obligations
- Nationally-renowned instructors
- 6 start dates each year
- The ability to progress at an accelerated pace with courses that start every 8 weeks
- Options for maximizing credit, including 18 hours awarded for previous experience and the ability to apply selected coursework toward their professional recertification
