Eat, Play and Dance at Ragtime Street Fair in Greenfield Village July 11-12
Dearborn, Mich. (PRWEB) July 08, 2015 -- Jump into the energetic music-filled world of the early- 20th century during Ragtime Street Fair in Greenfield Village, July 11-12, with special hours until 9 pm on Saturday, July 11. The signature event brings to life an African-American musical form that came to define American culture and led the way for the Jazz Age of the 1920s, the boogie-woogie swing style of the 1930s and ‘40s, and the rock and roll of the 1950s and ‘60s and beyond. This roaring weekend event is sure to invigorate with jazzy music, thrilling performers, lively dancing, and classic street fair food.
For the entire weekend, live music will be everywhere you turn. From piano players battling in an energetic “piano cutting” contest, to music lovers relaxing in comfy seats, everyone will be reveling in that seductively syncopated music. Guests will be treated to performances by modern-day stars of ragtime, Taslimah Bey, "Perfessor" Bill Edwards, John Remmers, Jerry Perrine and more. Join the River Raisin Ragtime Revue both Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon as they close both days with a Dixieland-style parade down Main Street led by the Tartarsauce Traditional Jazz Band.
Anyone can join in on the fun and excitement by learning authentic dances from that era, including the one-step, and showing off their moves throughout the streets of Greenfield Village. Participating in the cake walk—the quintessential turn-of-the-century fair game—allows guests another opportunity to show off their dance steps and even “take the cake.”
After working up an appetite dancing, guests can partake in many delicious American treats prepared specially by The Henry Ford’s award-winning culinary staff. Enjoy a giant turkey leg made with our own BBQ-sauced, a savory bacon beer brat, or keep it simple with an old fashioned hot dog. Snack on tasty summer specialties like warm buttered popcorn, crisp pickles, and fresh summer fruits. If you’re feeling really indulgent, satisfy your sweet tooth with hot fried dough doused with creamy ice cream, molasses and chocolate chip cookies, and a real summer classic- Strawberry shortcake.
Ragtime Street Fair is free with membership or $25 for adults, $22.50 for seniors 62 and up and $18.75 for youth 5-12. Children four and under are free.
