Eating Recovery Center Welcome Shannon Kopp as a National Recovery Advocate
(PRWEB) December 19, 2017 -- Eating Recovery Center (ERC), a trusted provider of comprehensive treatment for eating disorders, announced today the addition of Shannon Kopp to Eating Recovery Center as its new National Recovery Advocate. An author and inspirational speaker best known for utilizing pet therapy as emotional support while she was battling an eating disorder, Kopp joins a revered group of fellow advocates on ERC’s outreach team. In this role, Kopp will participate in the growing eating disorder treatment advocacy community on ERC’s behalf, contribute to various content channels, and speak at conferences, among other responsibilities.
Kopp is the author of Pound for Pound: A Story of One Woman’s Recovery and the Shelter Dogs who Loved her Back to Life, a memoir following her journey to overcome an eating disorder with help from shelter dogs. Unable to break the cycle of binging and purging, Kopp sought comfort through her job working at the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA. By sheltering and caring for these dogs, she regained the strength to heal and forgive herself. Her account has assisted those who struggle with eating disorders by exploring the need to trust someone – human or otherwise – to help them in their fight to recover. Kopp’s experience with animal therapy motivated her to establish the SoulPaws Recovery Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit offering free animal-assisted therapy to adolescents and adults impacted by eating disorders and other mental health issues.

Kopp regularly speaks about her personal journey struggling with bulimia and co-occurring mental health issues and what she feels she has recovered, including hope, resilience, and compassion. Her commitment to the eating disorder treatment community has established her as a leader and role model for those faced with an eating disorder. Kopp will serve as a crucial source of knowledge and support for those who have not yet sought treatment, as well as alumni, families, and medical professionals.
