MIAMI, FL (PRWEB) September 08, 2015 -- Fairs and festivals bring out the child in all of us and autumn is the season to celebrate the cornucopia of America’s cultural events. Most cities and counties across this great nation have unique festivals this time of year, but some are unmatched in their ability to entertain. Check out the events Eccentry Holidays has found to be the highlights of the season.
1. Roadkill Cook-off and Festival, Marlinton, West Virginia
Travelers won’t actually be eating critters who met their demise on the road, but rather some unusual cuisine comprised of game that are known for ending up as roadkill. Feast on squirrel kabobs, armadillo tacos or any number of dishes not found on a typical menu. Cook a roadworthy dish to enter in the contest or buy a tasting ticket to try the work of others this September 26 in Virginia. Just try not to hit any animals on the drive there.
2. Punkin Chunkin Festival, Dover, Delaware
Join hundreds of pumpkin chucking enthusiasts as they use their inventions to attempt to reach the longest distance with a propelled pumpkin launch on November 7 and 8. Teams use homemade trebuchets, catapults, air cannons and any other method that may prove effective. The World Championship Punkin Chunkin Association raises money for scholarships for participants of the event which is filled with various vendors and onsite camping.
3. National Storytelling Festival, Jonesborough, Tennessee
Started over 40 years ago by a high school teacher, this festival is dubbed the “leading event of its kind in America” by USA Today. The event is steeped in the Appalachian tradition of tale-telling and attracts more than 10,000 people every year. Participants listen to some of the greatest raconteurs in the country under circus tents peppered throughout the city. A great event for children, the National Storytelling Festival also has a wine and beer garden and live music for parents. Eccentry Holidays says that this year’s event is scheduled for October 2-4 and is sure to be a fantastic time.
