Edgewood's LifeCare Community Expansion
North Andover, MA (PRWEB) January 25, 2017 -- Edgewood, the only LifeCare Community in the Merrimack Valley, has been approved by our board and the town of North Andover to build state-of-the-art “small house” residential accommodations to serve seniors who seek assistance with daily living. This beautiful new addition to the campus will mirror a comfortable New England inn.
Our expansion is based on a small house model first developed by Dr. William Thomas in 2003, as an alternative to traditional, and often clinical, care centers. The concept features an “inn-like home” for 10 people, providing each resident with a private bedroom and bath located off a central dining and gathering space. A more cozy, home-like environment offers dignity and reduces isolation. Like other aspects of Edgewood, this concept contributes to greater wellness and quality of life by combining a sense of community with exceptional care.
Edgewood’s expansion will include four “small houses,” which will be clustered together, and each house will accommodate 10 people. Three of the four will be designed specifically for people who need memory support. The other one will be for those who require daily assistance. Staff dedicated to each house will be onsite 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide meal preparation, laundry, and programming based on the preferences of the people who live in the household.
All houses will feature an open kitchen and dining area, a family room area, laundry room, spa, den, and private living quarters for each resident, with access to a private courtyard and garden area. A beauty salon and rehabilitation gym will also be part of the home.
These new homes will complement Edgewood’s architecture and will be located at the bottom of Half Mile Hill, between the existing community and Lake Cochichewick. Construction will begin this spring, and we’ll start accepting reservations from interested families this summer.
