Edifecs Expert to Discuss Lessons Learned from First 30 Days of Health Insurance Exchanges
Bellevue, Wash. (PRWEB) October 23, 2013 -- Next week at the eHealth Initiative Health Data Exchange and Interoperability Summit in Washington, D.C., a healthcare IT expert from Edifecs, Inc. will present lessons learned from the first 30 days of health insurance exchange (HIX) open enrollment. John Kelly, principal business advisor and health IT expert at Edifecs, will address the role health data exchange played in the October 1 launch of HIXs as part of a two-day summit that will focus on how exchanging healthcare data drives quality improvement in healthcare.
According to Kelly, HIXs are a disruptive force that will drive change in many aspects of healthcare, particularly the numerous administrative processes where accurate data exchange is vital. Among these processes are member enrollment and billing transactions among insurers, state health insurance exchanges and the federal government.
In the run up to the largest open enrollment period in history, state and federal HIX operators and health plans faced significant technology integration challenges over a very short timeframe. Now that the exchanges have gone live, HIXs are entering a continuous improvement phase for data integration and functionality that will improve the user experience and streamline the online health insurance buying process through the end of the initial open enrollment period in March 2014.
WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 from 8:45 a.m. – 9:40 a.m. EDT
WHAT: Healthcare expert John Kelly will join Paul Budilo, CEO at Orange County Partnership Regional Health Information Organization, to discuss health data interchange to support health insurance exchanges. Kelly will examine the early challenges faced by healthcare organizations participating on one or more HIXs, focusing on the first 30 days after the go-live date. He will also identify critical functions for successful long-term operation on an exchange, contrasting them with existing processes used by insurers to manage their traditional lines of businesses.

Mr. Kelly provides strategic consulting to Edifecs customers, specializing in information exchange and applying the principles of supply chain integration to the healthcare delivery lifecycle.
