Education Pioneers Recognizes 10 EPic Alumni Who are Transforming Education and Eligible for $15,000 in Awards
OAKLAND, CA (PRWEB) September 15, 2016 -- Education Pioneers, a national nonprofit that recruits professionals with diverse skills and backgrounds into non-teaching leadership positions throughout K-12 public education, announced today the selection of 10 EPic Alumni who lead or contribute to work that is advancing equity and opportunity for underserved students.
From the 10 EPic Alumni, the individual who demonstrates the most remarkable change for underserved students will receive the Scott Morgan Award and a $10,000 prize. Two runners-up will receive $2,500 each. All prize money will go to advance critical initiatives in the winners’ organizations, or to support their own leadership development to increase opportunity and equity for underserved students.
The winner of the $10,000 Scott Morgan Award and the two runners-up will be announced at Education Pioneers’ National Conference, November 15-16, 2016 in San Francisco, CA. Education Pioneers will also showcase the work and impact of all 10 EPic Alumni.
“There are so many talented, dedicated leaders working hard every day to support students, teachers, families, and communities. Education Pioneers is thrilled to honor ten of our Alumni who are making a difference in advancing educational equity and opportunity,” said Gale Mondry, Board Chair for Education Pioneers. The Education Pioneers board of directors created the Scott Morgan Award in 2013 in honor of the organization’s 10-year anniversary and the organization’s Founder and CEO, Scott Morgan.
Education Pioneers’ 10 EPic Alumni lead and contribute to critical work at all levels on behalf of public school students across the country. They are:

All Education Pioneers alumni currently working in public education at any level were eligible to be considered for EPic Alumni recognition and the Scott Morgan Award. In addition to assessing alumni applicants’ work and impact on underserved students, Education Pioneers assessed how applicants work, including how they reflect Education Pioneers’ core values, including courage, optimism, collaboration, action, and diversity, equity and inclusion.
To date, more than 3,000 leaders have completed the Education Pioneers Fellowship, where they worked with school districts, charter schools and other organizations that support public education to help solve problems from outside of the classroom so students and teachers succeed in the classroom.
