EduMind Prepares Engineers for Upcoming License Renewal Deadlines
Dublin, Ohio (PRWEB) September 26, 2017 -- Many states require professional engineers (PEs) to renew their license, and typically, the deadlines to complete the requirements are near the end of the year.
Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi and Ohio are among the states that require engineers to renew their licenses prior to December 31 of each year. States that require license renewal to be completed by December 31 on a biennial schedule include Georgia, Iowa and Maine.
To ease the stress of PE license renewal, EduMind recently expanded its continuing education course library. With these new courses, EduMind now offers more than 500 diverse continuing education courses. These easily-accessible courses cover a wide variety of topics including building design, civil engineering, renewable energy, business skills and project management.
EduMind strives to provide lifelong learning opportunities through exam preparation and continuing education. EduMind is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and is authorized to issue the IACET continuing education unit.
Every continuing education course provided by EduMind is approved for all states in the United States. To cater to different state requirements, courses range from one professional development hour (PDH) to 22 PDHs.
The reason a majority of states have implemented continuing education requirements is to not only allow engineers to broaden their knowledge but also, most importantly, to keep the public safe.
“The primary purpose of licensing for professional engineers and professional land surveyors is to protect the public from unqualified or unethical practitioners,” said Tyson Ducote, the director of reinforcement for Louisiana. “The requirement for continuing professional development is also intended to protect the public by reinforcing the need for lifelong learning in order to stay more current with changing technology, equipment, procedures, processes, tools and established standards.”
States that implement continuing education requirements take the process very seriously. Engineers who do not meet specified requirements by the deadline could be suspended or have to retake and pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam to regain their active license status.
Roughly five percent of licensed engineers are audited in Maine during their biennium time period according to David Jackson, the executive director of the Maine State Board.
“If it is discovered (in Maine) by audit that they (an engineer) did not fulfill the PDH requirement, the Board files a complaint against the license, and that typically results in a public reprimand and a fine. Although, it could result in a suspension or revocation should the Board feel the offense merits that result,” Jackson said.
Aside from meeting the requirements to renew their PE license, engineers have found that continuing education courses can benefit them in their career.
“I have found online continuing education to be quite helpful to me as a registered professional engineer,” said Harlan Bengtson, a continuing education course writer at EduMind. “Not only has it met the continuing education requirement for renewing my PE license, but it has also allowed me to refresh and update my knowledge in some areas of engineering and to gain knowledge about engineering topics that I want to move into.”
