Edward James Olmos and Jewel Staite to Headline Galacticon 4 in Seattle
The Dalles, Oregon (PRWEB) February 16, 2015 -- Rex Mundi Productions announced today that Edward James Olmos and Jewel Staite will headline Galacticon 4 in Seattle Washington at the Seattle Center from July 31st through August 2nd 2015.

Edward James Olmos: (Axford) has achieved extraordinary success as an actor, producer and humanitarian. The Tony, Emmy and Academy Award® nominated actor, is probably best known to young audiences for his work on the SyFy television series “Battlestar Galactica” as Admiral William Adama. Although the series kept the actor busy during its run from 2003 through 2009, it didn't stop him from directing the HBO movie “Walkout” in 2007, for which he earned a DGA Nomination in the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Movies for Television category.
Olmos’ career in entertainment spans over 30 years. In that time he created a signature style and aesthetic he applies to every artistic endeavor, often grounding his characters in reality and gravitas. His dedication to his craft has brought him attention across the industry and with audiences worldwide.
Originally a musician, Olmos branched out into acting, appearing in many small theatre productions until portraying the iconic El Pachuco in “Zoot Suit.” The play moved to Broadway earning Olmos a Tony nomination for the role, which he revived in the 1981 film version.
Olmos went on to appear in the films “Wolfen”, “Blade Runner”, and the “Ballad of Gregorio Cortez” before starring in his biggest role to date, that of Lieutenant Martin Castillo in the classic 80s television series “Miami Vice” opposite Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. During his time on the Michael Mann series, Olmos earned two Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominations, resulting in a win from each.
In 1988, the actor was nominated for an Academy Award® and won the Golden Globe for his portrayal of Jaime Escalante in Stand and Deliver. He directed and starred in his first motion picture, American Me, in 1992.
Other credits as an actor include the motion pictures “My Family/Mi Familia”, “Selena”, and “In the Time of Butterflies”, in which he played Dominican Republic dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo. In television, he enjoyed a recurring role as U.S. Supreme Court Justice Roberto Mendoza in the NBC drama “The West Wing,” portraying a widowed father in the PBS drama “American Family: Journey of Dreams”, and recently Directed the YouTube phenomena “The Short Film BP Doesn’t Want You To See,” featured on Larry King/CNN.
Jewel Staite: stars as ‘Raquel’ in the CW series “The L.A. Complex”, which premiered in the Spring of 2012. Prior to that, she was seen starring in the Hallmark Channel telefilm “Call Me Mrs. Miracle” opposite Doris Roberts. This premiere was the highest rated Hallmark Channel telecast of the year. Prior to that, Jewel was seen as ‘Dr. Keller’ in the SyFy Channel hit series “Stargate: Atlantis”. Her stellar work has earned her rave reviews, as well as recognition from The Gemini Awards (Canada’s prestigious equivalent of our Emmy) with a nomination for ‘Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role’ in 2008. This was followed up with a nomination from the Leo Awards in 2009 for ‘Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series’.
Jewel made her 2005 feature film debut in Universal Pictures “Serenity”, Joss Whedon’s adaptation of the FOX science fiction television series “Firefly,” of which Jewel was a series regular. Jewel played the ship’s mechanic ‘Kaylee’, a sweet, happy and sensual farm girl who loves life and is a genius at fixing anything.
Additionally, Jewel has several TV series under her belt including Fox Family’s “Higher Ground” with Hayden Christensen, a recurring role on the highly praised FOX series “Wonderfalls,” NBC’s “Just Deal” and Nickelodeon’s “Space Cases.” Her MOW credits are just as impressive, with starring roles opposite James Brolin and Natasha Henstridge in Lifetime’s “Widow on the Hill”, Showtime’s “Damaged Care” opposite Laura Dern, as well as SyFy’s “Mothman” and “Doomsday Prophecy.” Some guest appearances include the CW’s “Supernatural”, her memorable role in the Showtime pilot “Huff “ with Hank Azaria and Oliver Platt, Syfy’s “Warehouse 13”, as well as Showtime’s “Dead Like Me” opposite Ellen Muth and Rebecca Gayheart, and FOX’s “The X-Files” opposite David Duchovny.
