Richmond, KY (PRWEB) May 19, 2014 -- Eastern Kentucky University will offer Kentucky’s first 100 percent online master’s degree in Gifted Education in Fall 2014. The program, which is designed to serve current Elementary, Middle Grades, and Secondary education teachers, is unique in that educators with any base level certification P-12 are eligible. Program graduates certified in Kentucky will be eligible to apply for the Gifted Education Endorsement, the Kentucky Teacher Leader Endorsement, and advancement in Rank.
Dean of EKU’s College of Education Dr. Verna Lowe, said “We are very excited to be the first in the Commonwealth to offer a 100 percent online MAEd in gifted education. We are committed to providing graduate students with an exceptional education that benefits our schools, delivered in a format that best fits their lives,”
EKU was founded as a teacher’s college and has been preparing education leaders for more than a century. EKU Online Program Coordinator and Professor Faye Deters looks forward to connecting with a larger, more diverse group of students through the new online program.
“The opportunity to earn an online MAEd in gifted education offers graduate students another path to career advancement; while allowing them to continue their current work in the classroom and maintain their personal obligations,” said Deters.
EKU Online students will take the same courses and earn the same degree as on campus education students. Faculty describe the curriculum as learner-focused with special emphasis on individualized teaching and learning, giving students opportunities to advance their career and enhance the learning experience of their students.

EKU Online students have many benefits designed to help them succeed, including a personal advisor who creates a graduation plan that allows them to meet both their individual academic goals and their professional obligations. Moreover, they have the ability to study anytime, from anywhere and to progress at an accelerated pace. Most online courses are completed in just 8 weeks as opposed to 16 weeks for traditional on-campus courses. Request more information at http://go.eku.edu/GiftedOnline.
