Electronic Imaging 2017 Symposium Proceedings Published Open Access And Available For Download
Springfield, VA (PRWEB) September 06, 2017 -- Electronic imaging (EI) is a multidisciplinary field central to many of today’s cutting-edge technologies, from virtual reality and autonomous vehicles to biotechnology and intelligent robots. To share research progress in the field, the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) has made the full papers of the entire proceedings library for the 2017 Electronic Imaging Symposium (EI) available for free download on the IS&T Digital Library.
The proceedings feature more than 350 papers and the work of the world’s top researchers and developers in all aspects of electronic imaging.
The Symposium, held January 29–February 2, 2017, in Silicon Valley, included 18 individual conferences that covered imaging topics ranging from augmented and virtual reality displays and processing to human vision, color, perception, and cognition. The Symposium also offered a newly established conference—Autonomous Vehicles and Machines— and two new sessions: “Computer Vision Applications in Sports” and “Surveillance: Applications and Algorithms.”
In addition to publishing the open access proceedings, IS&T has also published presentation videos from the following EI 2017 Plenary Speakers: Brian Cabral, Director of Engineering at Facebook; Laura Waller, Head of UC Berkeley’s Computational Imaging Lab; and Gordon Wetzstein, Leader of the Stanford Computational Imaging Group. The presentations are available on the EI YouTube channel, which also includes talks and keynote presentations from the Stereoscopic Displays and Applications Conference. Keynote presentations from the Autonomous Vehicles and Machines, Image Sensors and Imaging Systems, Material Appearance, and Visualization and Data Analysis conferences are also posted.
Next year’s Symposium takes place January 28–February 1, 2018, in Burlingame, CA, just outside San Francisco. Papers for the 2018 Electronic Imaging Symposium are currently being accepted for review; the submission deadline is September 10, 2017. Hot topics for EI 2018 include imaging for automotive and other robotic vehicles, astrophotography, and the student showcase.
Three plenary speakers are confirmed for the 2018 event:
- Greg Corrado, co-founder of Google Brain and Principal Scientist at Google, provides an overview of modern machine learning and deep neural networks, paying particular attention to its impact on imaging and the field of computer vision;
- Avideh Zahkor, Qualcomm Chair & Professor at U.C. Berkeley and serial entrepreneur with startups in outdoor mapping, indoor mapping, and micro-lithography, discusses fast, automated 3D modeling of buildings and other GPS denied environments; and
- Ronald T. Azuma, Intel Labs researcher and Augmented Reality pioneer, shares a vision for achieving ubiquitous AR, which requires not just solving numerous technical challenges but also determining new, compelling AR experiences that will establish AR as a new platform and novel form of media.
The conference program is augmented by technical courses taught by experts from academia and industry. Technology demonstrations and a focused exhibition showcase the latest developments driving next-generation electronic imaging products.
