Elementary School Launches Campaign to Determine the 7 Wonders of Georgia
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) January 14, 2015 -- The 5th grade TEAM class at North Roswell Elementary collaborated with the global organization Seven Wonders to establish a public voting campaign to determine the Seven Wonders of Georgia.
The idea for the campaign originated with the classroom teacher, Mrs. Megan Feldman-Queen, who was helping the students learn about the natural wonders of the world. As the students were engaged in the learning process, the question arose in regards to the wonders for the state of Georgia.
Mrs. Queen contacted Seven Wonders and inquired about the possibility of doing this type of campaign. Dr. Phillip Imler, President of Seven Wonders, said, "This would be a first state focused campaign, but that it seemed like an excellent way to help students learn more about the wonders of this great planet."
The students researched the potential wonders across the state and identified the initial candidates for the Seven Wonders of Georgia campaign. The next semester class adopted the project researching these wonders and writing each candidate's description for the voting poll. Imler noted, "It was obvious that the kids had put a lot of work into identifying statistical and traditional significant candidates."
The campaign for the Seven Wonders of Georgia includes a collection of wonders that are natural, man-made, and a combination of the two such as Stone Mountain. Wonder candidates feature historical significance such as the Martin Luther King Jr Historic Site and those of traditional significance such as the iconic World of Coke.
"Wonder candidates are based on statistical, historical or traditional significance and uniqueness or pure wonder," Imler noted.
Mrs. Queen received the honor of casting the first vote. The first day of voting revealed that Amicalola Falls was an early favorite. The class is headed to Tybee Island, one of the candidates, for the close of this week to continue their classwork while also experiencing one of the states potential wonder winners.
Voting is free and open to the public. Each person is permitted one vote for the candidate they believe is the best wonder. Interested parties can cast their vote at the Seven Wonders of Georgia site. Which candidates will win is up to you so vote now.
The next questions are which state is next, and which school is going to represent their state's campaign? If you are a teacher and would like your class to represent your state's campaign, please contact Seven Wonders through the contact page on the site.
