New York, NY (PRWEB) July 09, 2013 -- Elie Hirschfeld, owner of Hirschfeld Properties, has donated $40,000 to the Hirschfeld Presidential Fellowship in Comparative Studies at Brown University, bringing his total lifetime giving to his alma mater to more than $1 million it was announced today.
The Presidential Fellowship invites scholars from peer institutions to Brown to share their knowledge and perspective on the world. Noted visiting professors have included Professor Michah Gottlieb, Ph.D., an expert in modern Jewish thought and philosophy; and Professor Michael Gottsegen Ph.D., a scholar of Jewish theology, philosophy and political science.
"Brown was an indispensable part of my education and contributed immensely to the formation of my business acumen," said Elie Hirschfeld. "I have remained deeply committed to the well-being of the students there and to the faculty who made such a difference in my life."
Elie has also established and funded the Elie Hirschfeld Scholarship Program, granting scholarships to two deserving students each year.
Elie graduated Brown University in 1971 earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in the joint departments of Math & Economics. He graduated Brown with honors of Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude and made Deans List all semesters.
At Brown, Elie was elected President of his Class in his senior year. He served as President of Brown Hillel in his sophomore year. He spent his junior abroad studying at the London School of Economics.
Elie was appointed to the Board of Trustees of Brown University in 1992 and served until 2001, when he was appointed Trustee Emeritus and holds that title at present.
Elie has also received other Brown Honors, including the Young Leadership Award in 1986; the Alumni Service Award in 1989; and the distinguished Nan Tracy Award for service in 2008. The Nan Tracy Award states: “Each year, the award is presented to a class leader who has demonstrated exceptional service to his or her class. In countless ways, with consistency and commitment, you have continued and amplified her many contributions to the spirit of Brown.”
