Elizabeth King's Book Buddy's Wild Ride is the Gift that Gives Back
Tucson, Ariz. (PRWEB) December 04, 2015 -- An inspiring story of loyalty and friendship between a man and his dog makes a cheerful Christmas gift, and with proceeds from the purchase of the book benefiting Mason, Texas’ Buddy’s Animal Rescue, it’s a gift that gives back this holiday season. Buddy’s Wild Ride is the illustrated true story of Buddy the beagle, who proved that a dog is indeed man’s best friend when he insisted on hitching a ride on the ambulance carrying his owner to the hospital last fall. A portion of the sales of the all-ages book go to the new animal rescue organization that offers a no-kill alternative to adoptable pets scheduled to be euthanized by local shelters lacking space.
When 85-year-old Texas rancher J.R. Nicholson was rushed to the hospital following a bout of dizziness last year, his faithful ranch dog, a four-year-old beagle adopted only four months earlier, hopped on board the outside step of the ambulance and rode for miles before being discovered. Alerted by a motorist to the dog’s presence, the EMTs brought Buddy into the ambulance, where he rode with his “dad” for the rest of the one-hour twisty trip to the hospital. Nicholson, his beloved owner, was released from the hospital the same day in good condition … with his faithful companion at his side once again.
The moving true anecdote that inspired articles all over Buddy’s hometown of Mason (http://www.masoncountynews.com/news/118460/)
and across the nation (http://abcnews.go.com/Lifestyle/dog-hitches-ambulance-driving-owner-hospital/story?id=26971427) was memorialized in print by Nicholson’s daughter, Elizabeth King. King, incidentally, originally adopted Buddy and gave him to her father.
Buddy’s Wild Ride, an uplifting gift great for kids and adults alike, features illustrations by Tucson, Arizona watercolor artist Meagan Harrington Diaz and color photographs of Buddy and Nicholson. The book can be purchased online via Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Buddys-Wild-Ride-Elizabeth-King/dp/1511872209. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Buddy’s Wild Ride will continue to benefit the no-kill organization named for Buddy, Buddy’s Animal Rescue, or B.A.R. (Their tagline is: “The only time you’ll ever meet the love of your life in a bar.”) B.A.R. cares for and finds homes for adoptable pets that would otherwise be scheduled for euthanasia at local shelters lacking room for the animals. Nicholson’s favorite four-legged buddy continues to ride around the ranch, but in utility vehicles and often on Nicholson’s lap, as seen in an adorable color photograph toward the end of the book. If Buddy visits Santa’s lap this holiday season, he’s sure to make the “nice” list.
