Elliott Data Systems and Janam Support Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) September 19, 2016 -- Each stair climb team member was issued a full color, plastic ID card at check‐in which displayed their name, a QR barcode, and the photo and name of one of the 343 fallen firefighters from 9/11/2001 in whose remembrance they climbed. Participants were required to climb 22 flights of stairs (many wearing full firefighter gear) five times to represent the 110 floors of the World Trade Center Towers. Elliott’s team of representatives were stationed at each lap’s checkpoint where they used Janam’s XT1 rugged mini‐tablet and smartphones to scan the QR tag on participant IDs. Each time the barcode was scanned, the Mobile Solutions® App captured that person’s data, identified which station they were at, and created a time stamp of each check in.
“The Elliott team was thrilled to support the Clayton Stair Climb. Elliott professionals work daily to develop quality, dependable solutions for emergency first responders to use in the field while tracking and managing emergency scenes. This opportunity to work closely with the Clayton fire department staff, volunteers and participants first hand was a valued experience. We enjoyed being involved in the process and look forward to volunteering our time and resources again in the future for such a worthy cause."
Josh Dunbar, CEO, Elliott Data Systems, Inc.
A fully integrated Mobile Solutions® command center case was stationed on‐site using Mobile Solutions® Emergency Event Manager Software (EEMS) to track, manage and display event status reflecting all data captured. With the Janam XT1 mini‐tablet’s extended battery life, 2D & QR barcode scanning technology, the ability to work off‐line, and support of the Android™ operating system, it was the perfect complement to Elliott’s Mobile Solutions® App. While the team benefited from uninterrupted wireless internet service, the solution was prepared to capture data off‐line and synchronized to the command center once wireless could be restored in the event of a broken connection. The smartphones used were supported by a greater wireless connection due to the extended bandwidth made available by local cell towers. Each process guaranteed constant tracking coverage with no downtime.
“We are honored that our XT1 rugged mini‐tablet was selected to power the tracking solution for the Clayton 9/11 Stair Climb. We are forever thankful for the efforts of FDNY on that day, and every day, and proud that the XT1 could play a critical role in capturing information and ensuring the safety of volunteers and participants during this special event.”

Captain Hildebrandt, stationed at the Command Center on‐site, monitored data and directed staff based on the information presented throughout the event. The status screen identified each climber’s current lap, changed listings to yellow if a participant had been climbing longer than 15 minutes, and then turned red if the lap lasted longer than 20 minutes. Any red listing prompted an EMS volunteer to be dispatched and assigned to find that particular climber and attend their needs. Reports were generated within two minutes of the stair climb closing and reviewed by Captain Hildebrandt. Reports showed there were 164 participants during the morning climb and 110 during the afternoon with some climbers participating on behalf of multiple fallen heroes. Event traffic flowed well using a quick and easy check in/out process that accounted for every climber and ensured their safety as well as staff efficiency during the event.
“It was very easy to monitor our event today using the Mobile Solutions® System. I was able to view how many people were in a stairwell at any given time, who they were, and how long they had been in there. That data allowed me to ensure the safety and accountability of each participant volunteering their time and energy into today’s event.”
Jason Hildebrandt, Fire Captain, Clayton Fire Department
