Elms BMW to Sell New “i” Electric Range
Cambridge, Cambridgeshire (PRWEB UK) 13 September 2013 -- BMW have announced that their “i” range of electric cars will go on sale at 46 locations around the country. Elms BMW is very pleased to announce that our Cambridge dealership is one of those that have given the honour of selling these zero-emissions vehicles. The i3 city car and i8 hybrid sportscar will become available in late 2013.
Both vehicles are constructed according to the manufacturer’s “LifeDrive” architecture, where the chassis and passenger compartment are made as light as possible to compensate for the extra weight of the battery. The i3 model is an all-electric supermini based on the manufacturer’s “Megacity” concept vehicle of last year.
As well as its extraordinary, futuristic looks, the i3 boasts a maximum range of around 125 miles. The rear-mounted electric motor will provide 168bhp and maximum torque of 259Nm, giving it 0-62mph acceleration is just 7.3 seconds. 200 litres of storage space behind the rear seats also compares well with the other electric vehicles on the market.
The i8 sportscar, meanwhile, successfully banishes preconceptions many might have about the performance capacities of plug-in hybrid vehicles. Weighing just 1480kg, the car can achieve 62mph from a standing start in just 4.6 seconds, thanks to the 349bhp provided by the combined thrust of the petrol and electric motors. At the same time, this performance car offers a smooth, silent ride along with its outstanding turn of pace and delectable looks.
The Elms BMW dealership in Sheepfold Lane, Cambridge will be stocking the i3 and i8 from late 2013, as well as future hybrid and electric models planned for 2014 and 2015. Visit http://www.elmsdirect.com for further information.
