Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Aerospace Engineering Program Named Best in Nation for 14th Straight Year
Daytona Beach, FL & Prescott, AZ (PRWEB) September 10, 2013 -- For the 14th consecutive year, the Best Colleges guidebook published by U.S. News & World Report ranks Embry-Riddle’s undergraduate aerospace engineering program No. 1 in the nation. The annual compilation also rates Embry-Riddle highly in undergraduate engineering and names the university one of the top schools in the South.

In the specialty category of “Best Undergraduate Aerospace/Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering Programs at Schools Whose Highest Degree is a Bachelor’s or Master’s,” Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach, Fla., campus took first place for the 14th year in a row and the university’s Prescott, Ariz., campus ranked No. 3 for the 11th year in a row.
Additionally, in the broader category of “Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs at Schools Whose Highest Degree is a Bachelor’s or Master’s,” Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach Campus is No. 10, its seventh time in the top 10, and the Prescott Campus is No. 17, its eighth time in the top 20.

Embry-Riddle offers the following engineering programs: Bachelor’s degrees in aerospace engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, engineering physics, mechanical engineering and software engineering; Master’s degrees in aerospace engineering, electrical/computer engineering, engineering physics, mechanical engineering, software engineering; unmanned and autonomous systems engineering; and doctoral degrees in aerospace engineering and engineering physics.
In the category of “Best Regional Universities (South),” Embry-Riddle has advanced from No. 13 last year to No. 11 this year, among 124 institutions that grant primarily bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. This marks the 12th straight year that Embry-Riddle has placed among the top 25 schools in this category.
Methodology
The pool of eligible schools for the engineering rankings is based on accreditation by ABET Inc., which evaluates college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology. The rankings are based on the judgments of engineering deans and senior faculty, who rate each program they are familiar with. A few engineering schools with small doctoral programs, such as Embry-Riddle, are placed in the bachelor’s and Master’s category.
The rankings of the regional universities are based on reputation (25%), graduation and retention rates (25%), faculty resources (20%), student selectivity (15%), financial resources (10%) and alumni giving rate (5%).
