Emergency Contraception Now More Affordable for Women
Westport, CT (PRWEB) July 07, 2014 -- Syzygy Healthcare Solutions, LLC, a new U.S. consumer healthcare company, announced today the launch of its new, more affordable over-the-counter (OTC) emergency contraception brand, AfterPill™. The brand is available exclusively on http://www.AfterPill.com at a savings of up to 60% off the current retail brands helping to make emergency contraception more affordable for women.
“The recent Supreme Court ruling has shed a bright light on a variety of issues with female birth control options, including access, affordability and effectiveness,” explains Alyson O’Mahoney, PR spokeswoman for Syzygy. “AfterPill is a new option that helps meet these needs.”
AfterPill™ is a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized over-the-counter emergency contraceptive (1.5 mg levonorgestrel) tablet made in the U.S. for women ages 17 and older. The dramatically lower price of AfterPill™ – around $20 – is intended to make it more affordable for more women to purchase an emergency contraceptive and to encourage advance purchase so it is quickly available in the event of unprotected sex or if birth control failure occurs. The sooner a woman takes a levonorgestrel-based emergency contraceptive, the more effective it is at preventing pregnancy, and research has shown it to be most effective within the first 12 hours.
Being prepared and having the more affordable AfterPill™ on hand will help women use an emergency contraceptive more quickly if needed – no rushing to the pharmacy or waiting until it opens the next day, plus there’s no risk of the product not being available, and cost is less of a barrier. The World Health Organization has long recommended women have an emergency contraceptive on hand.
“Lowering the price of the best-selling OTC emergency contraceptive medicine to $20 will help make access to emergency birth control more affordable for women, adds O’Mahoney. “The ability to purchase AfterPill via http://www.AfterPill.com also means you don’t risk emergency contraception not being carried by your local pharmacy and it respects a woman’s privacy.”

About AfterPill™:
AfterPill™ is only for use by women 17 years of age and older.
When taken as directed, AfterPill™ is safe and effective, and the side effects are generally mild. Some women may experience side effects similar to those of many birth control pills. These include: changes in your period; nausea; lower abdominal pain; fatigue; headache; dizziness; and breast tenderness.
If you should experience abdominal pain, you may have an ectopic pregnancy and should get immediate medical attention.
The only way of knowing whether AfterPill™ has worked is when you get your next period, which should come at the expected time. If your period is more than seven days late, you may be pregnant.
Keep in mind, AfterPill™ is less likely to work if:
- You have unprotected sex or contraceptive failure again in the same menstrual cycle after taking AfterPill™
- You've already had unprotected sex or contraceptive failure earlier in your menstrual cycle
- You vomit within two hours of taking AfterPill™ (talk to your healthcare professional if this happens).
If you are over 165 pounds, you should consider speaking with your healthcare professional regarding the most effective emergency contraception options for you. Some research suggests levonorgestrel-based emergency contraceptive solutions may be less effective among women who are over 165 pounds.
Do not take AfterPill™ if you’re allergic to levonorgestrel or any of the other ingredients in AfterPill™. AfterPill™ is not effective if you are already pregnant and will not terminate an existing pregnancy. AfterPill™ should not be used as routine birth control, as it is not effective.
