Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) July 29, 2014 -- EMJAY Engineering and Construction Company, Inc., an institutional, commercial and industrial mechanical contracting firm, today announced that Michael O. Scherr, currently the company’s President, will become the President & Chief Executive Officer effective immediately.
Mr. Scherr joined EMJAY in 1966 and assumed the title of President in 1983. Under his leadership EMJAY has tripled in size and now employs over 100 people. With over 40 active projects, EMJAY is one of the leading mechanical contracting firms in the Mid-Atlantic region with contracts ranging in size from $1M to $10M. Founder and former President, Jerome H. Scherr, started the Baltimore business in 1954 with partner M. D. Lieb, a professional Engineer and General Contractor.
Positioning the company for its next stage of growth, EMJAY also announces the promotions/advancement of four of its top associates: Wayne Myers to Chief Operating Officer; Steve Messier to Vice President of Project Management; Mike Lohman, Vice President/Field Operations to include Quality Control and Project Commissioning; and Jeremy M. Scherr to Vice President of Safety.
Wayne Myers, Chief Operating Officer. Wayne is now responsible for business development, project leadership and oversight, and day-to-day operations. “Wayne is an integral part of our success and we are thrilled to promote him to this position,” says Michael Scherr, President & Chief Executive Officer of EMJAY Engineering.
Mr. Myers joined the firm in 1997 as a Senior Project Manager. In 2002, he was promoted to Executive Vice President and shareholder. Prior to his work at EMJAY, he was a Senior Estimator and Project Manager for a local mechanical contractor. Mr. Myers has field experience as an Apprentice, Journeyman, and Superintendent. He is a Master Plumber and Gasfitter and was an instructor for the Associated Builders & Contractors’ (ABC) Apprenticeship Program for over 10 years. He is currently an active member of the Baltimore Metro Chapter of ABC.
In his new role, Mr. Myers spends more time nurturing relationships with EMJAY’s clients and friends, balancing time in the office with “going out, seeing people, and getting to know them better.” “I want to make sure that they think of EMJAY first, every time,” Myers says.
Steve Messier, Vice President of Project Management and Shareholder. Mr. Messier provides leadership and direction to the Project Management function to ensure successful and profitable completion of EMJAY’s projects. Mr. Messier has been with EMJAY for 3 years, most recently serving as Senior Project Manager.

Messier brings more than 18 years of experience in construction and mechanical systems to EMJAY. He started his career in the District of Columbia working for Shapiro & Duncan as an Estimator and Project Manager on design/build and prime contract work for projects ranging from one to 15 million dollars. He has a complete understanding of mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing systems. He holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana.
Mike Lohman, Vice President/Field Operations, including Quality Control & Project Commissioning. Mr. Lohman joined EMJAY in 1989. In 2002, he was promoted to Vice President Field Operations and shareholder. He oversees all field operations and acts as liaison between EMJAY’s job Foremen and Project Managers. Lohman is now in charge of EMJAY’s Quality Control Program to ensure that products, services, and processes meet or exceed customer requirements. He also supervises all Project Commissioning, which includes checking, inspecting, and testing instruments, equipment, systems and subsystems prior to the safe and orderly transfer to the Owner.

Mr. Lohman has been in the mechanical construction business for 34 years and is a licensed Master Plumber for Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission and Washington County and a Master HVACR in Maryland and Virginia. He also holds Backflow and Cross Connection Certification as well as Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification and has completed extensive safety training.
Jeremy M. Scherr, Vice President of Safety and Shareholder. Mr. Scherr has more than 22 years of mechanical construction safety experience. He is responsible for the continuing development and maintenance of EMJAY’s safety and training programs, regulation and certification standards, and operational activities.

Jeremy Scherr holds licenses/certifications from OSHA, Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute, MOSH, Chesapeake Region Safety Council, AMTRAK, Baltimore County Fire Department, ABC, and others. He is trained in advanced technical rescue, confined space, job safety analysis, safety training methods, excavation, trenching and soils mechanics, swift water rescue operations, crane standard awareness, incident investigations, and site inspections. Additionally, he is a Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and a Certified Rescue Technician for the State of Maryland.
