Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) December 21, 2013 -- Neil Haley, The Total Tutor and host of the Total Education Celebrity show, interviewed Len Berman to find out how he began his career in broadcasting, his experiences in his career, and latest projects.
Berman is an Emmy award-winning sportscaster and New York Times bestselling author who, during his 40-year career in broadcasting, has covered nearly every major sports event including multiple Super Bowls, the World Series, and the Olympics.
He is the creator of “Spanning the World,” a monthly collection of sports bloopers, which was a 20-year staple on NBC’s “Today.” He is also the creator of “Sports Fantasy,” which aired on NBC and pitted regular viewers against famous sports stars.
He is the recipient of eight Emmy awards and 6-time winner of New York Sportscaster of the Year. His other books: Spanning The World (HarperCollins), And Nobody Got Hurt! (Little, Brown), And Nobody Got Hurt 2! (Little, Brown).
“I was amazed to hear all the interesting parts of his career,” Haley said. “How he started as a sportscaster and worked his way up the ladder to become a TV host in two major cities.”
“I did not want to be a sportscaster,” Berman confessed in the interview. “I wanted to be an engineer.” But, while attending Syracuse University, he became fascinated with reading sports scores. Soon, Berman became sports director at the university and announced Syracuse University basketball games. “I found sports more interesting news because it is more immediate than other news.”
Berman explains that he eventually landed a new reporter job in Dayton, Ohio, covering sports. “I thought everyone was a sports fan,” he said. “So that’s why I wanted to get a sports job.”
In the interview, Berman also talks about how he got hired as a sportscaster in Boston, announced Boston Celtics games, and covered other Boston professional sports franchises, including the Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox before landing back in New York to host “The NFL Show” on NBC.
