Energy and Commerce Committee Hearing to Discuss Zadroga Reauthorization, Parker Waichman LLP Comments
Port Washington, New York (PRWEB) June 19, 2015 -- Parker Waichman LLP, a national law firm that has spent many years fighting to ensure that the heroes of 9/11 terrorist attacks are never forgotten, applauds the House Energy and Commerce Committee for taking action towards reauthorizing the Zadroga Act. According to an announcement issued by the Citizens for the Extension of the James Zadroga Act, a legislative hearing will be held on the bi-partisan “James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act.” The hearing will be led by Chairman Upton (Republican-Michigan), Chair Joe Pitts (Republican-Pennsylvania), and ranking members Frank Pallone (Democrat-New Jersey) and Gene Green (Democrat-Texas).
Parker Waichman LLP comments that the Zadroga Act's two programs, the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program and the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF), are crucial for many responders and survivors who became injured or ill due to the attacks. These individuals may receive medical treatment and monitoring through the WTC Health Program. The VCF compensates individuals who were injured and the families of those who have died due to 9/11-related conditions.
“This hearing is another important step towards reauthorizing the Zadroga Act,” said Matthew J. McCauley, Senior Litigation Counsel at Parker Waichman LLP. “If these benefits expire, many injured responders and survivors will be left without the critical medical care and compensation they need and deserve.”
Parker Waichman has actively worked toward the 2010 passage of the Zadroga Act, including taking part in grass roots and lobbying efforts and trips to the nation’s capital led by Mr. McCauley, often, along with the firm’s clients. Mr. McCauley and Parker Waichman continue to support the Zadroga Act and continue to support efforts to extend the Act’s timeline and its scope.
“As a firm that has represented many responders who became ill due to toxic dust exposure, we understand firsthand the impact these benefits have,” said Gary Falkowitz, Managing Attorney at Parker Waichman LLP. “We applaud and support efforts to renew the Zadroga Act.”
Parker Waichman, which worked, and continues to fight, alongside Ground Zero first responders, survivors, and their advocates, to help ensure passage of the Zadroga Act and its amendments, vows to continue its efforts to safeguard these heroes and ensure that they receive all of the Zadroga Act compensation they deserve. If you or a loved one are eligible for compensation under the Zadroga Act, and would like assistance with your claim, or if you or a loved one have been injured as a result of toxic exposure, please visit Parker Waichman's website or call 1-800-LAW-INFO (1-800-529-4636).
