Energy Veteran Steve Clark Joins 8minutenergy Renewables as Vice President of Engineering, Procurement and Construction
CA (PRWEB) June 09, 2014 -- 8minutenergy Renewables, LLC, the nation's leading independent solar PV developer, today announced that Steve Clark has joined the company as Vice President of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC). In his 36 years of power generation experience, Steve has played a leading role in the development and/or construction of more than 25 utility-scale PV projects representing over 3,000MW around the world.
Prior to joining 8minutenergy, Steve was the EPC project director for the recently completed 250MW California Valley Solar Ranch project in central California. Previously, he served in senior leadership roles in engineering and development with NextLight Renewable Power and First Solar. Projects he helped develop include the landmark 290MW Agua Caliente Project in Arizona; the 50MW Silver State North Project in Nevada; and the 550MW Topaz Solar Farm Project under construction in California. During his career, Steve has assumed a variety of management roles in the energy industry including as project engineer, project manager, project director, manager of operations and Vice President of Engineering.
“To 8minutenergy, Steve brings a rare combination of deep experience in virtually all facets of power plant project development and construction for a wide variety of generating technologies,” said Martin Hermann, CEO of 8minutenergy, which has 400MW in Power Purchase Agreements, and over 20 projects and 1,000MW under development. “We look forward to the key role Steve will play in helping us further develop and construct our solar projects.”
“The ability of 8minutenergy to attract a candidate of Steve's stature is testament to our growing reputation for bringing solar projects from the drawing board through permitting and financing to successful conclusions,” added Tom Buttgenbach, President of 8minutenergy. "Steve's insights and expertise will prove invaluable in guiding our numerous projects to fruition."
“I am excited to join 8minutenergy, which is proving over and over again that their solar projects can be developed quickly and competitively,” said Clark. “I look forward to joining the seasoned team of renewable energy veterans at 8minutenergy, and contributing to the successful construction of our solar projects.”
Before working with First Solar, Steve spent three years developing WorleyParsons' capabilities in California in the gas turbine combined cycle, utility-scale solar (thermal and PV) and transmission and substation sectors. He also spent six years with Calpine Corporation, where he helped design and build more than 30 projects representing over 10,000MW across the U.S. and Mexico. Prior to this, Steve spent over 20 years with Black & Veatch working with numerous power generation technologies (renewable, coal, gas, waste-to-energy), at project locations throughout the U.S. and internationally.
Steve is a registered professional engineer with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Kansas State University. He completed the General Management Program at Harvard Business School.
About 8minutenergy Renewables, LLC
8minutenergy develops, finances, engineers, constructs, holds, operates and maintains solar projects. To date, 8minutenergy has closed over $1 billion in solar Power Purchase Agreements; been awarded 400MW in PPAs; secured close to 1,000MW in General Interconnection Agreements (GIA); obtained Conditional Use Permits (CUP) for 7,500 acres; and has 15,000 acres under contract. Most recently, 8minutenergy successfully concluded the development of a 260MW solar plant in Imperial Valley, Calif. - Mount Signal Solar - which is now under construction. It represents the first of three phases of an approximately 800MW-dc (600MW-ac) planned solar PV power project - currently the largest in the world.
8minutenergy's proprietary transmission, land and economic analysis process and tools helps select optimal power plant sites for accelerated permitting with counties and utilities. All 8minutenergy solar projects are located on disturbed, low-value farm land. 8minutenergy strives to ensure that its solar power projects provide low cost, clean renewable energy from the sun with low environmental impacts, particularly when compared with public lands projects on pristine desert wildlands. 8minutenergy has offices in Folsom, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and El Centro, California.
